Noise and Vibration

We are frequently called upon to combine our engineering and testing expertise, manufacturing capabilities and materials knowledge to develop innovative, effective solutions to noise and vibration control issues. Solutions are applied to very diverse industries and can take a variety of forms. Our development process focuses on three critical elements: performance, cost, and manufacturing. In-house access to an extremely broad range of services and technologies enables us to develop optimal solutions to unique issues. Working in partnership with our customers, we provide design input, product development expertise and manufactured solutions that can be implemented in production to enhance noise and vibration quality.

The following examples illustrate our ability to provide innovative, effective solutions tailored to address customers’ specific needs.

Automotive

Automotive OEMs are continually challenged to meet consumer demands for vehicles that are quieter and smoother. In response to this demand, several OEM customers have asked Roush to address transmission shift engagement “clunk.”

Aircraft / Aerospace

Minimizing noise in aircraft interiors is critical to the comfort of passengers. A helicopter manufacturer contacted Roush to develop and manufacture the optimal damping treatment for the fuselage skin of a new airframe.

Computer and Disk Drives

Manufacturers of hard disk drives for the computer and consumer electronics industries are constantly exploring ways to increase product performance while decreasing noise and vibration – conflicting demands that present a formidable design challenge.

Consumer Products

Producing more comfortable products is a primary objective of manufacturers in the highly competitive consumer products market. A major tool manufacturer asked Roush to resolve an issue familiar to anyone who’s ever wielded a hammer: handle vibration.

Heavy and Commercial Trucks

A commercial lawn tractor manufacturer contacted Roush to analyze a problem with one of its products. The vehicle was exhibiting a premature failure of a driveshaft that coupled the engine flywheel to the transmission input.

Government and Defense

Military vehicles, unlike automotive passenger cars, can be relatively noisy inside. However, military specifications limit the amount of noise exposure to its occupants.
